UK electronic producer Kieren Hebden’s restless forward momentum and pursuit of new sounds make every Four Tet album distinct from its predecessor. But with Four Tets ninth album, 2017’s ‘New Energy’, Hebden does something unexpected: he revisits previous sounds. Theres the low-key warmth of 2003s ‘Rounds‘, the free jazz at the heart of 2005s ‘Everything Ecstatic’, the friendly thump of 2012s ‘Pink’, the sprawl of 2015s ‘Morning/Evening’. Downtempo nodders, beatless passages that flow into big bangershe synthesizes all this into his most accessible listen since ‘There is Love in You’. (Pitchfork)
