Chrome Dreams, one of Neil Young’s most individual and powerful albums, was scheduled to be released in 1977, but as is often the case with Young, things change. And then change again.

The album was first compiled onto an acetate in 1977, but never released. Eventually, copies of the acetate found its way to bootleggers and the album was unofficially circulated widely in the 1990s.

With Chrome Dreams, it has been a long time coming to get to this final official version of an album that includes some of rock and roll’s most unforgettable songs. Its time for Chrome Dreams to find its way into the world.

Writing in The Guardian, Alexis Petridis opined that the album “could have been Young’s strongest album of the 70s”
